MLC election goes off smoothly in Kadapa

Anantapur: Despite scorching sun, a record number of teachers cast votes for the teachers’ MLC constituency of Anantapur. Polls to MLCs under graduates, teachers and Kadapa local body seats went peacefully with no untoward incident on Thursday.

An average of 93.26 per cent of polling was recorded for teachers’ constituency in Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa districts. Similarly, 63.25 per cent of polling was recorded for graduates’ constituency.

In Anantapur district, about 92.84 per cent of votes polled from teachers’ segment and 68.19 per cent from graduates’ segment. In Kurnool, 93.60 per cent of voters cast votes for teachers and 57.34 per cent from graduates; while 93.30 per cent polled for teachers and 64.22 per cent for graduates in Kadapa district.

Though, initially graduates did not show interest to cast votes in the morning session, 63.25 per cent polling was recorded by evening.  Only 37 per cent of voters cast their votes at 2 pm from Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa districts.  

But, teachers participated actively in the polls from all three districts. IT minister Palle Raghunath Reddy reached the polling station in Uma Nagar area here on a bicycle to cast his vote.

Graduate constituency candidates Geyana-nd and V. Gopal Reddy cast their votes at polling stations in Anantapur. Collector Kona Sasi-dhar and SP Rajase-khar Babu also cast their votes at Anant-apur centre.

Kurnool range DIG B.V. Ramana Kumar along with SP P.H.D. Rama Krishna visited polling stations in Kadapa city following tense situations prevailed since one week.

They monitored bandobast in the district. The DIG and SP ins-pected polling process at government girls’ college, Mariapuram St. Joseph E.M. school and Municipal High School.
