The SIT has seized electronic equipment including hard disks, computers, and gadgets which will be sent for forensic testing.
Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team looking into the alleged data theft in AP conducted a search at the IT Grids India Pvt. Ltd.’s office in Madhapur on Saturday. The 10-hour search revealed that data regarding voters had been modified and a large number of voters’ names deleted.
The SIT has seized electronic equipment including hard disks, computers, and gadgets which will be sent for forensic testing.
Forensic experts joined the operation by the SIT. A senior officer said, “The crime was reconstructed at the office and we have found some additional evidence. The electronic devices that we seized will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory through the court. The SIT will also file a counter-petition to dismiss the petition filed by IT Grids CEO D. Ashok. The probe will pick up the pace.”
The IT firm had on Friday moved the Telangana High Court, denying the allegations of data theft and seeking to revoke the case against it.
The SIT, led by IGP Stephen Ravindra, sealed the IT Grids office on Friday. The nine-member SIT is analysing the data on the hard disks and is on the lookout for Mr Ashok.
The Cyberabad police had booked a case against IT Grids India on March 2 following a complaint filed by data analyst T. Lokeswara Reddy alleging that sensitive data, including personal information of AP voters was being processed illegally by the company. The data was allegedly used for an app developed for Telugu Desam cadres.
