Indravelli: Pipeline work done, but no sign of Bhagiratha yet
People in interior villages have to trek long miles for water.
Indravelli: Mission Bhagiratha’s water supply is yet to reach many interior villages in the Old Adilabad district. In many areas the work of building tanks and laying of pipes have been completed but drinking water is still not being supplied to the villages.
People of the interior areas have still to depend on agriculture and drinking wells in the villages. Even before the onset of summer they have begun facing acute drinking water problem.
In the first week of March, temperatures have peaked. People are already anticipating that they high temperatures will impact the drinking water supply this summer.
Some villages have already begun buying water tanks.People of Rathnapur village, Talamadugu mandal have already been facing acute drinking water problem every summer for the last two decades.
While the drinking water and storage tanks have been constructed under Mission Bhagiratha, but drinking water is yet to be supplied to the villagers. Officials concerned say that they are trying to supply water to the Rathnapur village soon.
The drinking water problem is acute in Narnoor, Gadeguda, Indravelli, Jainoor, Sirpur (U), Talamadugu, Bela, Kerameri, Tiryani, Sirikonda and Wankidi mandals. Drinking water is also acute in the Adivasi gudems in the newly created Gadeguda mandal. People of Dodanda and Gattepalli are also facing acute drinking water problems in Indravelli mandal.
Villagers of Gattepalli say that their drinking water well will dry up in the coming one week. Women carrying pots of water on their heads is now a common scene in interior areas. In many places, women can be seen walking long distances to fetch water from agriculture wells and rivulets. Some villagers are also fetching water in plastic and iron drums on bullock carts from long distances.
However, the district officials of integrated Adilabad district have failed to come out with an action plan to deal with the drinking water problem though a zilla parishad meeting was recently held.
Elected public representatives have failed to address the drinking water problem before the onset of summer and leaders of all the major political parties were busy with the local body elections earlier and now with the Lok Sabha elections after the just concluded Assembly elections.
Officials also have been engaged in election related works and enumeration of new voters.
