Sunil P Ilayidom to deliver 5-day talk on Marxism
The speech will commence at 5 pm at Kozhikode Town Hall.
KOZHIKODE: Critic Sunil P. Ilayidom will kick off here on May 1 a five-day lecture series, which concludes on May 5, the 200th birth anniversary of Karl Marx. Kozhikode Samskarika Vedi is hosting the event, and each will last for two to 2.5 hours, with audience interaction at the end. He said he would reflect on Marxian views on class and class war, environment, gender and sexuality, caste and culture. “The aim is to portray how Marx is relevant even now concerning various problems the human race and world is through," he said.
"Some sections firmly believe Marxism has no life in this century as it was a thing of past, more after the dismantling of USSR. I strongly object to that view.” He believes various facets of the Communist propounder; as a philosopher, economist, historian, political theorist and socialist should be explored rather than confining him to a single role. “There is no other theory like Marxism which affected us in such a big manner. When we go through the fallout of economic crisis, many would not know Marx predicted it,” he said.
The speech will commence at 5 pm at Kozhikode Town Hall. Prof Ilayidom’s recent series on the 'Cultural History of Mahabharatham' was widely appreciated and so many people watched on Youtube. “The speech is expected to dissect Marxism in the light of new issues and opportunities,” said A.K. Abdul Hakeem of Samskarika Vedi.
