Bengaluru: Bescom vows to cover exposed junction boxes in two months
We found junction boxes that were damaged and without covers, says a senior Bescom official
Bengaluru: If you find junction boxes left open on pavements or public places, contact Bescom and the officials will fix them immediately.
Recently, a citizen highlighted on social media the pathetic maintenance of junction boxes, which were left uncovered, posing a danger to the lives of pedestrians and children. Bescom immediately took note and ordered all its officials in all zones to go on rounds and make a list of junction boxes that are not covered and to assign people to fix them.
A senior Bescom official said, "We found junction boxes that were damaged and without covers. As junction boxes are located on footpaths, they might lead to fatalities when a human or animal comes in contact. We have immediately asked the officials to ensure that every junction box is covered. We are also thinking about introducing the lock system, as most of the time, they are left open."
He said, "In another two months, we will ensure that all junction boxes are covered. We will direct officials to carry out regular checks."
Dr Suhas Shetty, a resident of Malleswaram, said, "Every day, I find junction boxes left open or without covers. As these have live wires, anyone coming in contact can get electrocuted. Bescom should fix these before a tragedy occurs."
When told that Bescom has taken note of the problem and has promised to fix them, he said that it is not just about fixing, but they also need maintenance. "Bescom should carry out regular maintenance and fix such problems immediately. These might be minor issues, but can take away someone's life," he said.
