Hyderabad: The First Additional Metropolitan Session Judge on Tuesday convicted Amudala Mahender Reddy alias Mahipal Reddy and sentenced him to life for the murder of TD leader Chalasani Venkateswara Rao in 2010 over non-payment of commission in a land deal.
The body of the TD leader was found in a pool of blood at Swapnika Pearls Apartment in Madhuranagar on September 26, 2010.
Police investigation revealed that Venkateswara Rao was in the company of Mahender Reddy and one Ratnakar. The murder occurred after Ratnakar left at about 11 pm. Mahender Reddy fled from the spot and was later arrested.
Police said Mahender Reddy used to assist Venkateswara Rao in real estate deals for a commission. In one of the deals, Venkateswara Rao promised Mahender Reddy Rs 5 lakh per acre if he found a buyer for a 24-acre parcel of land in Vishakapatnam. After the deal went though, the TD leader kept postponing the payments. On the night of the murder, Mahender Reddy once again asked for the commission. When the TD leader did not pay, Mahender Reddy murdered Venkateswara Rao, police said.
First Metropolitan Sessions Judge Suneetha Kunchala found Mahender Reddy guilty based on evidence unearthed during the investigation and convicted and sentenced him.
