Kochi: Traffic grinds to a halt at Kundanoor Junction
With the situation getting worsened, the Traffic Police reverted to old diversion plan after the morning rush hour.
Kochi: A new traffic diversion plan implemented at the busy Kundanoor Junction, where a flyover construction is progressing, on Tuesday morning went awry resulting in heavy traffic jam there.
The cops effected U-turn of vehicles proceeding to Maradu and Aroor sides from Thevara just at the end of pillars on northern end, thereby saving the vehicles from proceeding nearly half-a-km towards Vytilla to take U-turn.
“However, it further worsened the situation. The serpentine queue of vehicles could be seen extending to two kms upto Lakeshore Hospital. Vehicles were also caught in the jam at the other end (from Vytilla side),” said Vinu P B, a private bus driver.
More vehicles passed through the Kundanoor Junction than on normal days with the PWD closing the Kundanoor-Thevara parallel bridge to facilitate tarring of approach roads at both ends. The work is expected to be over in a couple of days.
With the situation getting worsened, the Traffic Police reverted to old diversion plan after the morning rush hour. The heavy traffic jam eased by noon.
