Thiruvananthapuram: NSS volunteers roped in for green polls
It is learned that there are around 3,000 NSS volunteers in the state capital.
Thiruvananthapuram: First time ever the volunteers of NSS (National Service Scheme) would actively take part in the Lok Sabha polls to ensure a 'green' election in the state. According to NSS, Thiruvananthapuram district administration has come up with the request for NSS volunteers to enforce green protocol in the district during the elections.
There are a total of 2,715 polling booths in Thiruvananthapuram district. It is learned that there are around 3,000 NSS volunteers in the state capital. A top official of NSS said that the chief electoral officer has approached them. "We are just happy to be part of the elections and our volunteers are well trained in the implementation of the green protocol. During Attukal Pongala, our volunteers actively took part in the initiative and gave awareness for the devotees," said the official.
The official said that more district administrations would come forward with the green protocol initiative. "We have enough volunteers at every district and it will not be a problem to mobilize these resources," the official added. The official said that the NSS has also offered the Chief Electoral Officer, their willingness to provide aid for disabled voters.
Thiruvananthapuram collector K.Vasuki ha urged youngsters to come forward to help ensure a green election.
