Kolkata: In another shocking statement, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leader Suman Dutta, has alleged that women students in Jadavpur University (JU) 'can't be molested because they have no shame'.

“These girls claim to be molested. Someone should tell them that only girls who have shame can be molested,” he was quoted as saying according to a report. "These girls kiss men openly. This is what they do all day."

Blaming the women for ‘creating unnecessary drama’, he addressed the crowd in the protest march asking if they would "let their daughters and sisters kiss men in the open like these JU girls".

"Through the 'kissing' revolution, they have taught women to wear just underwear," he said. "So undergarment-wearing comrade and kissing comrades, just want to ask you, if you are a father and a mother someday, and your daughter is kissing some other man in front of you, will you still say all of this?" he added.

Slogan-shouting members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested outside the Jadavpur University campus in Kolkata on Monday, attempting to march to varsity gates before being stopped by the police.

Hundreds of ABVP students protested to counter a demonstration held a few days ago alleging that ABVP men molested female students on Friday night during the screening of Vivek Agnihotri’s controversial film 'Buddha in a Traffic Jam', which triggered clashes and caused tension.

Reports suggested that the ABVP activists also tried to unsuccessfully cross the barricades installed by police personnel. They also threatened to chop off legs of Jadavpur University students if they stepped out of the university campus. “The Leftists, students, teachers and a section of non-teaching staff have turned the university into a den of anti-national activities,” Subir Halder, West Bengal secretary of ABVP, said.

“We will not allow these anti-national activities here. We will chop off their legs if they dare to venture out of the university campus,” Halder said.

Carrying the tricolour and shouting slogans, ABVP and BJP activists conducted the rally from Golpark to Jadavpur police station.

Jadavpur University students crowded at the gate during the standoff between the ABVP and the police. "They wanted to come here and attack us. They were stopped by the police today. They will try again and we will be at this gate, ready and waiting," said Sounak Mukhopadhyay, a student leader.

Last week on Friday, rival groups of students clashed at the campus over the screening of ‘Buddha in a Traffic Jam’, triggering chaos, during which some girls were allegedly molested and BJP actor-turned-politician Roopa Ganguly was not allowed to enter its premises.

Agnihotri faced black flags at the campus gates and sloganeering. Some students chased Agnihotri’s car. The filmmaker claimed he was "manhandled and gheraoed" by some students and that his car window pane was shattered. BJP leader Roopa Ganguly also rushed to the campus but was prevented from entering.
