Madurai: Unidentified persons allegedly hurled six petrol bombs at a BJP functionary's house at Devakottai in the small hours on Tuesday.  Muthuraman (65), state secretary of BJP's Tamil development wing, was staying along with his family members at Sarswathi Vasaka Salai in Deevakottai.

Around 2 am, miscreants hurled petrol bombs near the widow of his house and escaped. When Muthuraman and his family members came out the house, they found broken pieces of liquor bottles found scattered in the place. A widow glass was also broken in the attack.

Based on an alert, police rushed to the spot and conducted an investigation. A police source said that as Muthuraman had received two threat letters a few months ago they had also give protection to him based on his complaint. The police were withdrawn from his house only recently.

After this incident, the police were deployed once again at his house for security. A senior police officer said that they were investigating the case from all angles.
