Cops probing harassment, says Pinarayi Vijayan
The Kannur incident would be examined legally after registering a case.
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said the police was conducting an inquiry into allegations of harassments at National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) centres in Kannur.
Replying to a submission by Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala in the assembly, he said a female officer had been asked to meet with the girl’s family. Such incidents caused undue pressure on the students, and it was a “mental agony", he said.
Promising to apprise the Centre of the matter, he said the exam board had published a list of do’s and don’ts in an information bulletin many days in advance. The Kannur incident would be examined legally after registering a case.
Mr Chennithala said students had to beg, borrow and buy new dresses to write the exam after being told their clothing violates norms. “That was cruel, inhuman and insulting," he said, terming it as a human rights violation and urging the Assembly to stand united against such norms. MLAs M. Rajagopalan, Suresh Kurup and PC George also raised the matter.
