Srinagar: The Army said on Wednesday that it foiled an infiltration bid by militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s north-western Baramulla district. No casualties were reported during the firing between a group of militants trying to sneak into the Valley and the troops, the officials said.

The incident took place in Baramulla’s Rampur sector overnight, the Army said adding that the militants tried to breach the fence along the de facto border and walk inside Jammu and Kashmir. “But own alert jawans opened fire and forced them to return to the PoK,” said a defence spokesman.

He also said that a search operation was launched in the area at first light on Wednesday to ensure that no militant has managed to sneak into the Valley.
