Telangana government mum on Gough Road closure
The road is used by lakhs of motorists to cross from Secunderabad to Malkajgiri, Sainikpuri and several thickly populated areas.
Hyderabad: Local military authorities have put up a board notifying the closure of Gough Road from May 31. Minister K.T. Rama Rao was assured of an extension of deadline during a recent visit to New Delhi, but that appears to have been ignored.
The notice reads, “Road closure from 31st May 2017. General public is hereby informed that this road (Gough) will be closed for the public traffic from 31st May 2017 onwards in consonance with the High Court order on the subject, Emergency vehicles will be however be permitted.(sic)”
The road is used by lakhs of motorists to cross from Secunderabad to Malkajgiri, Sainikpuri and several thickly populated areas. Local military officials were not available for comment. There was no word from the state government either.
“Once again there is a deafening silence from the state government and the Secunderabad Cantonment Board,” said Mr C.S. Chandra Shekar of the Federation of Northeastern Colonies of Secunderabad. Besides, he said, about nine roads in the Golf Course area which were not part of the High Court Order, but which are nevertheless closed, said
He said, “There is deafening silence once again from the SCB and the military authorities about the recently unearthed RTI information which shoted that six of the nine closed roads in the Golf Course area are not A1 military roads, but ‘C’ class Cantonment-funded roads.”
