Chennai: The fan clubs of Udhayanidhi Stalin, the third generation of DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi, will soon be active in social service to carry his name to remote villages of the state.

His films too will have a social message following in the footsteps of AIADMK founder MGR. Although, Udhayanidhi campaigned for his father and DMK working president M.K. Stalin at Kolathur constituency and took part in a few party protests, he has not played an active role in politics. But, his fans club recently formed an advocates wing and is preparing to start a literary wing, besides wings for doctors and workers to reach out to people.

Udhayanidhi Stalin Advocates Wing will help poor people to get free legal service and other wings too will help people, especially in rural areas. The club will be active in social work like helmet awareness campaign, plastic eradication and conservation of natural resources. An enthusiastic fan club functionary said the number of fan clubs would be increased and new branches would be opened in villages.

However, he ruled out the possibility of Udhayanidhi becoming a full time politician and said, “Our leader wants to help people and serve society. As far as we know, he will not take the political plunge in the near future. He will continue acting in films with a social message and fan club will take roots in the state to carry his name to the remote corners of the state”.

His father Stalin and grandfather Karunanidhi have been active in politics since their youth. But Udhayanidhi seems to have taken a different route to popularity.
Matinee idol MGR showed how films and fan club activities can help an actor to gain fame in politics and later DMDK leader Vijayakanth too followed the same route. However, political analysts refused to discuss the subject saying no other actor except MGR had achieved similar heights through film and fan club route and it would not be possible for any other actor in future too.

One of the analysts said “Though, I don’t want to say anything negative against Udhayanidhi’s public service, MGR was like the Himalayas of Tamil cinema with no one above him in popularity and fan fare. Udhayanidhi is not in the list of top actors, but he could gain some popularity through fan club activities, only if the DMK backed him”.
