India needs federal setup, says Kamal Haasan
Rights of states should be protected: MNM leader.
Chennai: The diversification of the nation demands a federal outlook, where the state should never let go off its regional rights and the business should be carried out with concern for people, Makkal Needhi Maiam founder and actor Kamal Haasan said on Wednesday while addressing a session organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Admitting that politics was played over river Cauvery, Kamal recalled his earlier statement that the dispute can be easily addressed, if politics was kept aside.
A logical solution will arrive if the issue is left to the farmers of both the states, he said.
When asked about his views on educational institutions and the industries in the state he said that the colleges are rolling out just graduates. “We need to improve the quality of education, where every graduate is employable,” he said adding that industries should do business abiding by the law of the land where the common man is taken care in a constitution set up as prescribed by Mahatma Gandhi, Kamal added.
Later, political commentator and editor of Tamil magazine Thuglaq, S Gurumurthy, addressed the Ficci meeting and said that shelf life of ideas has shortened to quarterly results, where the corporate set up fails to think about long term plans and strategies.
The columnist also blamed the media for hyping even a municipal election. Bypoll results are converted into headlines disturbing the vision and focus of governments if they lose a poll. On GST, Gurumurthy said it was a harsh step on the economy, but he backed the demonetisation imposed by Centre.
The chartered accountant by qualification also urged the business captains to be a good observer and said that industries will grow only if the small and medium enterprises are supported by creating a social economy, which is different from contract economy promoted by the west.
