Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Justice P. Sathasivam on Wednesday sought a report from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the murders in Mahe and Kannur on Monday night.
The state government was asked to explain the steps taken to ensure peace after the killings. The governor expressed anxiety over the political killings in the state and asked the government to clarify whether the law and order situation had failed.
“There were instances of violence after the killings which was worrisome,” the governor said. Police say that the murders were planned in advance. CPM leader Kannipoyyil Babu was hacked to death when he was returning home at Palloor in Mahe, part of Puducherry. RSS worker U.C. Shamej was attacked in retaliation at New Mahe in Kannur.
Babu’s murder is being investigated by Puducherry police under Mahe circle inspector A. Shanmukham while Thalassery Circle Inspector Premachandran is probing the murder of Shamej.
