Kannur: As Monday's murders took place in Palloor area divided between two states, it has affected the investigation.

CPM worker Kannippoyil Babu was killed in Mahe police station limits in Puducherry and RSS worker Shamoj under the New Mahe police station limits in Kerala.

The murders will be investigated by Thalassery Dy SP K.E. Mohanachandran and Puducherry SSP Apoorva Gupta, respectively. Both murders took place within a 5 km radius.

Given the confusion that would crop-up during the investigation, police chiefs of both states closeted at government guest house, Thalassery, on Wednesday to streamline a joint operation.

DGP Loknath Behera and Puducherry DGP Sunil Kumar Gautam told reporters after the meeting that all possible ways will be explored to capture the killers.

Mr Behera said that being a small area, it would be easy for them to launch a joint operation and capture them soon.

Meanwhile, CPM leaders headed by A.N. Shamseer MLA met Puducherry DGP and sought action against the Mahe police who failed to ensure protection to Babu despite intelligence report on possible attempts on his life.

Mahe police has also registered cases against some 500 CPM-BJP workers in connection with the violence unleashed after the murder in which a police jeep also was set ablaze.
