Youth held for ‘mystery’ vehicle fires in Coimbatore
The ambulance was provided free of cost by ‘Kongu Friends Trust’ for the needy and poor during medical emergencies.
COIMBATORE: In an unfortunate development, city police have taken a youth into custody, suspecting him of having set fire to two vehicles, including an ambulance parked near Koundampalayam in Kovai.
According to police, a four-member gang had allegedly set fire to an ambulance vehicle belonging to a trust that was parked on road side near Kavundampalayam-Annaiappa Gounder Street on late Wednesday night. The ambulance was provided free of cost by ‘Kongu Friends Trust’ for the needy and poor during medical emergencies.
However, the gang had allegedly set fire to the ambulance late on Wednesday night, besides setting fire to a tempo parked in front of a workshop for ‘FC’ in the same area; the blaze rapidly engulfed both the vehicles, before the public could do something to put out the fire.
On receiving information from the members of public Thudiyaloor police rushed to the spot along with experts and collected forensic samples; few days ago, a four-member gang had broken open the doors of an ambulance parked on the roadside during late night hours, sat inside it and consumed alcohol, police said.
Aghast at their behaviour, local residents chased away the gang members.On receiving a complaint , Thudiyaloor police under suspicion, picked up a 25-year-old youth Surya.
