CHENNAI: DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Thursday blamed the AIADMK government for the cancellation of Maduravoyal-Harbour elevated corridor project and said the city people were upset as a major scheme had been dropped. In a statement here, he said the state government was not concerned about implementing the project which would have helped businessmen to carry their products to Harbour in quick time, without getting caught in traffic congestion for several hours.

The scheme would have improved the city’s infrastructure in a big way and reduced the accidents taking place in the city. Several companies had planned to set up their factories along the route of the elevated project, expecting easy transport to Harbour, but they had abandoned their plans now. The Centre had also planned to set up a container terminal at a cost of '3,600 crore near Sriperumbudur, but the plan had been stopped. Due to traffic woes in reaching the Chennai Harbour, most of the industrialists had shifted their operations to the Vishakapattinam Harbour.
