Rahul Gandhi to lead Congress' protest against drug menace in Punjab
On the request of the Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh, Rahul Gandhi agreed to participate in the dharna against the drug menace.
Jalandhar: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will lead a protest by the party's Punjab unit here on June 13 against the drug menace and alleged deterioration in the law and order situation in the state.
On the request of the Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh, Rahul Gandhi agreed to participate in the dharna against the drug menace and deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab, Congress MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh said on Friday. He claimed when Rahul raised the issue of drugs in Punjab in 2012, the Akalis accused him of maligning the youth of Punjab.
The situation now has gone from bad to worse as Akalis never bothered to solve the problem, Singh said. He said besides Rahul, all senior party leaders and workers from the state will also take part in the dharna. The eradication of drugs from Punjab is the top priority of Congress and the current programme is being held in that connection only, Singh said.
