The dead were identified as Ch. Gopi, 28,  and Hussain Valli, 43. The injured worker was B. Srinivas, 30, both residents of Akkayyapalem area in the city.

Five workers were polishing furniture at the third floor of an apartment building on Thursday when a German Shepherd dog belonging to the owner of the building Narava Rambabu, who lives on the fourth floor, broke loose and attacked the workers. In a bid to escape, two of the workers bolted the door from inside while the other three jumped from the balcony.

Dog owner accused of negligence
Gopi died on the spot with head injuries and Hussain died during treatment at Kala hospital. Accusing the dog’s owner of negligence, witnesses said that the dog bit Gopi and he had jumped to escape its clutches. Though the workers had earlier requested Mr Rambabu to keep it away, he had ignored their plea, they added.

“It was an unfortunate incident the dog had broken loose. Normally the dog never attacks and only barks. But due to fear the workers jumped instead of staying inside the room,” said Mr Rambabu, who is the president of the BC Association and a relative to panchayat raj minister Ayyanna Patrudu.

A German Shepherd dog is seen on the terrace of the building from which two persons fell to their death.

Sub-inspector of Fourth Town police station B.B.S. Ganesh said that the condition of Mr Srinivas, who was injured, was stable. “We are verifying all the facts to register a case,” he said.

The co-workers of the victims said that it was a clear of case of negligence on the part of Mr Rambabu and demanded that the cops register a case against him.
