Hyderabad: Pics on internet puts rape victim's life in jeopardy
Did not expect he would do this, stresses victim.
Hyderabad: The family of the techie who was allegedly raped by Mayur Pan House owner Upendra Varma is extremely upset over her photographs and videos shared by Upendra’s friend are doing the rounds on social media. The visuals are being extensively shared, putting the victim’s life in jeopardy.
“We want justice to be done so that such men do not dare to do this to any other girl,” said the victim’s mother. “I pray that no girl should go through such an ordeal.”
The family has approached Cyber Crime Police of Hyderabad to take down the images and videos.
The Kacheguda police has remanded Upendra for 14-day judicial custody and picked up his friends Ajit Kumar, Manish and Mohammed Shazab, who were later let off on bail. They were under IPC Section 506 (criminal intimidation).
“I never expected him to do this. We knew each other for almost five years and he promised that he will marry me. The blackmail started when I asked him to keep his promise,” the victim, a software professional, said.
“I got to know about the relationship, threats and blackmails about a month ago. We noticed that our daughter was slipping into depression. She was on the verge of committing suicide and she told us that she did not want to live,” the mother said.
“It was then that we approached the police after contemplating our options. We lodged a complaint with the Kacheguda police and the cops took up investigation promptly,” she said. She hoped that other victims of threat and blackmail would report to the police.
“Upendra has been remanded to 14 days in judicial custody by the police. The investigation is on,” said ACP, Kacheguda, J. Narsaiah.
Meanwhile, following reports in the media, about 30 Mahila Sangam activists staged a protest on Saturday morning and forcefully closed a branch of Mayur Pan House at King Koti.
