Hyderabad: Large chunks from Neredmet cross road leading to Sai Baba temple (6th avenue) has been dug up for the drinking water network jointly sponsored by the WB project of Malkajgiri division.

At present a portion opposite Reliance Fresh leading to Neerdmet police station and the turn toward Ding Droad is excavated, leaving space only for single lane traffic.

In the last six months, the internal roads of Defence Colony and JJ Colony were dug up to install the main trunk pipeline, but the hilly road has not been restored.

This area is a residential zone with 20 per cent commercial outlets. The damaged roads forced residents to hold hunger strikes. Over 250 residents of Defence Colony staged a protest at Neredmet cross roads on July 9.

DC found that the highly damaged road begins from the entrance of Neredmet police station lane.

This stretch was dug up and filled with mud. Huge pipeline trucks are parked on the main roads and internal lanes of JJ Colony and even the space opposite to the Senior Citizen Park is occupied. A large portion of the road diagonally opposite to Reliance Fresh has been cut.

The portion opposite to Panatanji store is also cut. Ms.Yamuna Pathak, a resident of Defence Colony said, “The digging in Defence colony started in 2015 July. We questioned HMWSSB officers. They said it is a 24-month project and will be over by November 2016.”

Sanjeevni Khanna, Division GM – HMWSSB Uma Shankar said, “The drinking water project was started in 2014 and is a 24-month project. The Defence Colony pipeline is 3.36 km long.

The pipeline runs from this colony up to Anand Bagh. HMWSSB has already deposited Rs 6.7 crore for new roads. Tenders for new roads is being invited.

The trunk is 1,600 mm. Opposite Reliance Fresh we found another pipeline. So the trunk has to be laid on top or below. This will be over in a week.”
