Thiruvananthapuram: A woman from the state capital has raised doubts that her daughter could have joined the IS.

K. Bindu of Attukal in Thiruvananthapuram has said her pregnant daughter Nimisha Fathima, 25, had stopped contacting her on June 4. “I received WhatAapp messages from my daughter till June 4 in which she said she was happy but suddenly the messages stopped,” Ms Bindu told Deccan Chronicle.

Fathima married Eesa of Palakkad, her senior at Century Dental College, Poinachi, Kasargod, who had converted from Christianity. His earlier name was B. Vincent.

Ms Bindu said she had complained to intelligence chief R. Sreelekha a month ago regarding her daughter’s disappearance and brought to her notice about reports of religious conversions in certain institutions in north Kerala. “The authorities took my complaint lightly,” she said.

Ms Bindu said she had come to know about her daughter’s relationship with Eesa when she abruptly stopped contacting parents in November last year while pursuing fourth year of her BDS. “The cops said with whom we had registered a complaint said the two  can live together as they are adults,” she said. “The High Court where we filed a habeas corpus petition also went with her decision.”

Ms Bindu said she had had visited daughter and her in-laws at Palakkad in March and the couple returned the visit in May. Days later, Eesa informed Bindhu over phone that they will be leaving the country for Arabic and religious classes.

“I do not care whether she wears burqa or follow another religion; I just want my daughter back,” she lamented.
