Kozhikode enters online cab service map
Capital-based Mango cabs will be the first to exploit this hidden potential.
Kozhikode: After Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, online taxi services of low budget and quality have arrived in the city. Thiruvananthapuram-based Mango Cabs will start services on Monday offering car travel for a minimum fare of Rs 99.
One can go in the basic model cab for Rs 99 for the first four kilometres and then Rs 10 and Rs 11 per km respectively for AC and non-AC cars.
The basic model is Maruti Suzuki Ritz. However, the fleet also has other models like Maruti Swift DZire, Toyota Innova and luxury cars like Jaguar, Audi, Land Rover, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Mango Cabs general manager (Kerala) Vishnu A. Kumar said the city fleet has 200 cars in many models.
“We also have 500 drivers registered and 24-hour customer service. As a part of our CSR activities, we are offering free services in hospital emergency cases between 10 pm till 5 am,” he told DC. “We also assure safe travel with 100 percent GPS system and same rate will be charged during night hours.”
With its arrival, more online taxis are expected to start services here. Meanwhile, the auto-taxi unions have come out against the service, and it marred Friday's launching ceremony.
However, similar incidents in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram against taxi aggregators were in vain with High Court ruled in their favour.
