Guntur: Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Leader of the Opposition in AP, was unanimously re-elected the president of the YSR Congress at the party’s third plenary meeting held in Nambur, in Guntur district, on Sunday. MLA Ummareddy, the returning officer for the election of party president, announced that 20 sets of nominations had been filed on behalf of Mr Jagan, and no one else had been nominated. Mr Jagan was elected unanimously.

After the announcement, Mr Jagan said that he intended to launch a padayatra from Idupula-paya, visit Tirupati to offer prayers, and then start a Praja Prastha-nam walkathon in the footsteps of his father. He said that he would visit all the districts and round off his trip at Ichapuram, which is at the north-eastern tip of the state.

Mr Jagan compared AP Chief Minister Chandra-babu Naidu to Bhasmasura, who had tried to cheat Shiva, the God who had granted him a boon, and said that Mr Naidu had made false promises knowing that he could not fulfil them. He said that in the movies the hero had to suffer initially before emerging victorious.
