Hyderabad: Railway official raided for role in medical scam

Hyderabad: In the medical bills scam detected in the South Central Railways (SCR) by the Central Bureau of Intelligence (CBI), more railway employee was found to be involved in the crime. The CBI carried out searches at the residence of these officers.
In May, the CBI booked a case for falsification of documents, accounts, and criminal misappropriation against one V. Ganesh Kumar, an accounts assistant in the expenditure section of the principal financial adviser to the South Central Railway and four others. It is suspected that the officer produced fake medical bills. This was detected by the principal financial adviser’s office.
During the investigation, it was found that 31 fake bills, without a GST number and with fake purchase order number, amounting to Rs 2.20 crore were passed between October 2018 and April 2019. It is alleged that Ganesh Kumar while working as accounts assistant in the expenditure section of the PFA’s office, SCR, was in a criminal conspiracy with unknown persons, misusing his official position.
More than a month later, the CBI, on Tuesday, carried out searches at the residences of other railway officers as the investigation found them to be involved in the crime too. The names of these officers have not been disclosed because the investigation is still underway, the CBI said.
