Osmania University asked for original PhD mark sheets
Two students alleged that the interview marks were altered at the time of declaration of admission results.
Hyderabad: With several discrepancies found in the marks awarded by interviewers for admission into PhD courses in the engineering subjects offered by the Osmania University (OU), the Telangana High Court directed OU officials to submit the original marks sheets of the PhD eligibility test, particularly the marks allotted to students by the interviewers.
Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy was dealing with the petition filed by two students who intended to pursue their PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, alleging that the university had allotted marks to candidates who were absent for the interview to help them secure admission. They alleged that the interview marks were altered at the time of declaration of admission results.
Counsel for the petitioners Abhishek Reddy submitted that a perusal of the interview mark sheets revealed overwriting and manipulation.
“Examination of the original interview evaluation sheet of the Departmental Research Committee, which consists of six members, will uncover all the manipulation that the department is guilty of,” he submitted to the court.
Refuting the explanation of university counsel, who said there were no discrepancies in awarding the interview marks, the court directed the university to submit the original marks secured by all candidates for the EEE stream.
The court sensed prima facie misconduct in this issue and warned the university that it would refer the issue to the CBI for inquiry. The case was adjourned to July 15 for submission of the original marksheets.
