4 killed as bus hits lorry near Namakkal
The Kumarapalayam police have registered a case and are investigating.
NAMAKKAL: In a terrible tragedy, a private omni bus and a lorry collided head-on near Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district on Thursday morning, killing at least four persons including three from Kerala and seriously injuring eight others.
According to police, the bus from Bengaluru to Kottayam in Kerala was on its way to Kottayam late on Wednesday night, carrying 42 passengers when the mishap happened.
The bus, driven by S Ravichandran (56) from Salem, was nearing Kumarapalayam around 5 am on the Bengaluru-Coimbatore national highway, when it suddenly collided with a truck laden with bamboo logs, and the lorry toppled.
The victims, Mini Varghese, wife of Biju Joseph (38), her son Asalvijo (10) and lorry cleaner Sidharth (30), sustained severe injuries, and died on the spot.
On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued nine other injured and admitted them to the government hospitals in Pallipalayam and Erode.
Meanwhile, George (63) from Kerala, died without responding to treatment at the Erode government hospital. The Kumarapalayam police have registered a case and are investigating.
