Selfie tragedy: Dakshina Kannada engineer's body found
After the required postmortem, Kiran's body was handed over to his family.
Chikkamagaluru: The body of 26- year-old engineer, Kiran Kotian of Dakshina Kannada, who slipped off a boulder while taking a selfie and was washed away in a tributary of the river Bhadra on July 26, was found on Thursday by locals, who alerted the police.
The body of the engineer was found floating in the river 25-kms from Kalasa near Haluvalli and was fished out by expert swimmer, Bhaskar at the request of the police. Kiran and 12 of his friends were holidaying in Kalasa, Kudremukh and other places in Chikkmagaluru when he met with the accident on July 26, falling into the river while taking a selfie on his mobile phone, standing on a boulder nearby.
The algae growing on it had made the boulder slippery, according to some locals. Soon after he was swept away in the river, a massive search operation was launched involving the police, fire force and locals in and around Hebbale, Vashishtatheertha and along the banks of the river Bhadra, but it was given up as there was no trace of the body. But it appears to have surfaced owing to the heavy rain in the region over the last couple of days.
After the required postmortem, Kiran’s body was handed over to his family.
