2 family suicides rock Bengaluru
Sarjapura police have arrested the couple and registered the statement of Muniratnamma.
BENGALURU: In two heart-rending but unrelated incidents three children were killed by their mothers in Bengaluru on Thursday in the limits of Chikkajala and Sarjapura police stations. Family dispute and debt were found to be the reasons for such extreme steps.
Though in both cases mothers tried to commit suicide, but they were rescued. One was arrested and another is battling for life in hospital. In the incident that took place in Sarjapura police station limits, Chandan (7) and Yuvarani (5) were killed by their mother Muniratnamma.
According to police, Muniratnamma was frustrated because of marital discord. Family dispute with husband Muniraju had driven her to take the extreme step.
When her husband had gone out, Muniratnamma had pushed both kids into a sump and left them to die by drowning. She also jumped into the sump.
She did drown as the water level was low. Muniratnamma then came out and tried hang herself to a ceiling fan in her house. But, neighbors rushed in and rescued her.
Sarjapura police have arrested the couple and registered the statement of Muniratnamma.
In the second incident Varun (8) lost his life after he drank water laced with poison given by his mother Usha Kumari in Chikkajala police station limits.
According to police, Usha Kumari, a resident of Tarabanahalli was married to Roopesh, a security guard. Roopesh had incurred heavy loans and stressed by this. Usha Kumari decided to kill her son and end her life.
Usha Kumari had given the poisoned water after Varun returned from school. She also drank that water and then came to a temple with her son. Both collapsed on the temple premises.
Devotees rushed them to Bowring hospital. Varun succumbed while Usha Kumari is battling for life in the hospital. Jalahalli police have begun investigation.
