Chennai Corporation council sanctions orders to relay interior roads in all 15 zones

Chennai: Gearing up for its annual monsoon arrangements, the cash-strapped Chennai Corporation adopted 100 resolutions on Friday, a majority of them related to road relaying work.

The council adopted 40 resolutions sanctioning work orders for contractors to relay the interior and bus route roads in all its 15 zones. North Chennai, which includes Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s R K Nagar constituency, got a lion's share with 161 road works being cleared by the council.

Similarly, Valasarawakkam and Maduravoyal zones, which include extended areas, were also sanctioned more than 200 road works running to more than Rs 20 crores.

The council also adopted a resolution under which 5,531 polling stations are to be set up for the ensuing local body polls scheduled in October. The council also discussed the setting up of exclusive polling stations for women and regularisation of the polling stations located in congested areas.

Mayor Duraisamy also tabled a resolution, which read that 178 councillors of the total 200 have submitted their property details for the years 2014 - 2016.
