Did not know attackers, but I can identify them: Akbaruddin Owaisi

Hyderabad: MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi on Friday said that he had purchased 50 cartridges for his licenced pistol in January 2010, prior to the attack on him in April.

During his cross examined by defence counsel, the MLA said that he does not possess any pistol or revolver apart from this licenced weapon.

The MLA said that he was aware that arms dealer maintain a register and he should sign for every purchase. He also said that he did not inform the investigating officer about the 50 cartridges he bought from Ateeq, but handed over his licence.

Mr Owaisi said that he could not say if he has the receipt for the purchase of the 50 cartridges and said that he has to search for it. He said that he learnt later that that one person was killed during the attack on him, but said that didn’t know who Ibrahim Yafai was, but could have identified him on sight.

He also said that he was not aware of the name of the person who stabbed him, but could identify him if he saw him. Mr Owaisi also said that he did not know if the accused suffered injuries after he fell from his vehicle. After Mr Owaisi’s deposition, the Seventh Metropolitan Sessions Court Judge adjourned the hearing to September 17.
