Khammam gripped by typhoid, 30,000 fall ill

712 malaria cases and three chickungunya cases have been registered in the district.

Khammam: The people of Khammam district, who have been suffering from viral fevers, Dengue, Malaria and Chikungunya now have to also worry about the increase in typhoid cases in the district.

About 31,000 typhoid cases have been registered at various primary health centres and private hospitals in the district. Typhoid fever is an acute illness associated with fever caused by the Salmonella typhi bacteria. The bacteria transfer from one human to another through contaminated water or food. A person carrying the germs can also spread it to healthy ones.

About 250 members from Allapadu, a village under Bonakal are now suffering from different fevers. About 1,600 persons registered for treatment at primary health centres in Wyra in July and fifty percent of them are suffering from typhoid.

Apart from typhoid, about 214 dengue cases, 712 malaria cases and three chickungunya cases have been registered in the district.
