Girls allege SP student leaders of eve-teasing, send 3,000 postcards to Akhilesh
They have accused three leaders of Samajwadi Party's student wing of eve-teasing and hooliganism on the campus.
Aligarh: Female students from three degree colleges in Uttar Pradesh on Friday claimed to have sent more than 3,000 postcards to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, demanding action against three members of ruling Samajwadi Party’s (SP) student wing.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the girls have accused the three student leaders of Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha of eve-teasing and hooliganism on the campus.
The three – state secretary Zia-ur-Rehman, district president Ranjeet Choudhury and city chief Mumtazim Kidwai – have been identified as the students of Dharma Samaj Degree College in Aligarh. On September 1, they were suspended by the college authorities for allegedly bringing a mob of 50 outsiders to the campus and causing ruckus in the classes.
Some students have also accused them of misbehaving with the teachers and female students. “We have been living in fear since the September 1 incident. Due to eve-teasing, some girls have even stopped coming to the college. We want legal action against the three students,” Tanu Saini, a law student at Dharam Samaj Degree College, said.
"College Principal Dr Anjana Bansal had informed me about the September 1 incident. She, however, did not mention anything about eve-teasing," Aligarh District Magistrate Rajmani Yadav said.
Girl students of Dharma Samaj Degree College, with the support of Tika Ram Kanya Mahavidyalaya and Shri Varshney College, have started a protest against the three student leaders, law student Sadhna Srivastava said.
However, principal Bansal has denied Srivastava’s claims and also that they had sent postcards to the chief minister.
Meanwhile, Rehman, Choudhury and Kidwai have denied the allegations against them and claimed that RSS student’s wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has misguided the girls.
Speaking about the September 1 incident, the three claimed that they had held a peaceful protest against ABVP members “attacking their city unit president Mumtazim Kidwai on August 31.”
