Karimnagar: Camera drones have been keeping people from drinking at public parks and tourist spots in and around Karimnagar city. The Karimnagar Commissionerate has started using camera drones to locate people drinking and causing a nuisance at the Lower Manair Dam and at public parks.

The drones record footage of such nuisance-makers, and their vehicles, and the police subsequently book cases against them. So far, 50 cases have been booked against persons caught drinking at tourist places on the basis of the footage recorded by drones.

Many families visit the Lower Manair Dam, Ujavala Park and the Deer Park. The Manair riverfront is also being developed as a tourist spot. In these areas, several incidents of attacks by eve teasers, molestation, and the robbery of cell phones, cameras and money have been reported. The Commissionerate wishes to inspire confidence among people, especially women, through the improvement of surveillance.

The Karimnagar Police say that drones are deployed at locations where boozers are known to hang out. If the police were to physically conduct surveillance at these spots, it would be easy for the nuisance-makers to give them the slip, which is why the drones are more effective.

Upon spotting a flying object, boozers have begun covering their faces and fleeing in an attempt to avoid detection.

V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, the Commissioner of Karimnagar, says that the drones are helping the police keeping track of the activities in public places to control the nuisance created by boozers and improve safety for people in general, and women in particular. He says that they are also planning to use drones to identify and clear traffic jams.
