Airline employee caught with gold worth Rs 1.34 crore

According to sources, the employee, who was working as a ground handling staff, was on the DRI radar for sometime.

Hyderabad: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials seized 4.194 kg gold worth Rs 1.34 crore and Rs 3.6 lakh cash from an airline employee and two others outside the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday.

According to sources, the  employee, who was working as a ground handling staff, was on the DRI radar for sometime. He was intercepted by the sleuths when he exited the airport on Tuesday early hours. The employee was seen meeting two other people waiting outside the airport and handing them over two packets.

When the DRI officials checked the packets, they found 4.194 kg gold worth Rs 1.34 crore in the form of 35 bars and Rs 3.6 lakh cash. The employee and two gold receivers were taken into custody and are being questioned by the DRI, the sources said.
