Hyderabad: For the second week in a row the streets of the city were left log-jammed, flush with rain water and motorists put at grave risks of accidents.

Areas like Khairatabad, Uppal, Karwan, Attapur, Miyapur, Gachibowli among other were left inundated as severe rainfall clogged the roads. The drains are blocked as there is also a lot of construction material being pulled by the rain water on the roads and seeping into the drains.

Across the city, construction debris are found to be seeping in, blocking manholes, apart from plastic bags and garbage.

On Wednesday, the GHMC fined independent house owner Kaleshawar Rao Rs 1 lakh for the construction debris at Miyapur which was left on the road by him.

“Hyderabad is unbelievable this year. Rains for three hours leading to flooding of roads. The traffic is the biggest worry as the roads are not motorable at all. To add to the problem is the parking space created below the metro rails where the two wheelers stand in a queue and it is then only a one-lane way,” said Pramesh P., a resident of the city.

For those travelling from the IT corridor of the city to make their way home, commute is staggered by heavy inundation of the roads.

Keeping in mind the intensity of the rainfall, some offices have also asked their employees to maintain staggered timings. Officials were asked not to opt for travelling in one go and as precautionary measure, few of them are leaving at a time.

Putting the seriousness aside, some people on social media also managed to make fun of the rains. One of the tweets read: ‘This year Raavan won’t burn but rather drown in Hyderabad.’

Meteorologists predict that the city would continue to witness moderate rainfall for the next three days.

“The rains are courtesy of a cyclonic circulation over north coastal Andhra Pradesh in culmination with a trough extending up to Rayalaseema. Meanwhile, Hyderabad may also receive one or two intense spells of rainfall on Wednesday.

From Thursday onwards, rain activity will reduce but we cannot rule out the possibility of scattered light to moderate rain until October 12,” stated the IMD.

It further predicted that there will be isolated light rain over the state, but the weather will not turn completely dry.
