Summit has raised stature of Tamil Nadu globally: Edappadi K Palaniswami
The CM warmly thanked the PM for choosing Mamallapuram as the summit venue.
Chennai: Even as the Modi-Xi summit is attracting praise and positive responses from leaders cutting across political lines, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday said the event "is a matter of pride" that has raised the stature of Tamil Nadu globally.
Extending a warm welcome to the two "world leaders" on behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu and the government, the CM warmly thanked the PM for choosing Mamallapuram as the summit venue. He also recalled the Chinese "trade and cultural" connection with Mamallapuram "dating back to several centuries" and stressed it was the ideal choice for the summit.
The meeting of the two leaders to discuss the "improving cordial Indo-China ties" would sure be a matter of 'pride' for Tamil Nadu and raise its stature in the global arena, the CM said in a statement here.
He recalled that Mamallapuram was an important port of the Pallavas centuries ago when Yuan Suang visited as the Chinese emissary. It's thus quite appropriate that the place has been chosen now for the Modi-Xi summit, he said.
