TVV chief booked for ‘Maoist links’

Hyderabad: Maddileti, president of the Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika (TVV), a student organisation based in Osmania University, was booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) by the Nallakuta police in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

A police team investigating a case booked in Jogulamba district came to the city and searched the residence of Mr Maddileti in Vidyanagar. Investigators claim to have found incriminating evidence of Mr Maddileti's links with core committee members of the proscribed CPI (Maoist).

They lodged a complaint with the Nallakunta police alleging that Mr Maddileti and others are involved in unlawful activities and planning to ‘dethrone the government’.

After booking the case, the Nallakunta police have been searching for Mr Maddileti. “His association with the banned CPI(Maoist) has been established beyond all reasonable doubt,” stated a police official.

The TTV, meanwhile, has demanded that two of its members who were arrested in Jogulamba district should be released as their arrests were illegal.  M. Sandeep, general secretary of TVV, told Deccan Chronicle that on the evening of October 4, Jadwal district TVV convener Naganna was illegally detained by the Jadwal police and was kept in custody for more than 48 hours.

“We suspect foul play. On October 6, they produced him in court and lodged him in Mahabubnagar jail without any intimation to family members and nor are they giving them a copy of the FIR. Again, on October 7, the police arrested another TVV member, Balaram, and lodged him in jail.”

 It was the following day that the team led by G. Bala Venkata Ramana, sub inspector from Jogulamba district police conducted the search at the residence of Mr Maddileti in Vidyanagar and reportedly recovered letters which were allegedly written by CPI (Maoist) party leaders.

 Mr Ramanna has lodged a complaint with the Nallakunta police stating that it is clearly established that Mr Maddiletti is a member of the left-wing extremist organisation the CPI (Maoist) and is actively participating in unlawful activities and organising revolutionary activities in (Maoist) armed squads.

They further alleged that Mr Maddileti and other persons are hatching a criminal conspiracy against the state, to dethrone a democratically elected government with the connivance of the banned CPI (Maoist) organisation.
