Amartya Sen's death rumours started after a parody account of recent Economic Nobel Prize winner Claudia Goldin on X stating, "A terrible news. My dearest professor Amartya Sen has died minutes ago. No words.'
The X account has a huge number of followers and claims to be the official account of the Nobel Prize winner. All the top news websites and publications fell prey to the death hoax and carried the news. It was then that the news reached Sen's daughter, who took to social media to explain that her father is as busy as ever and the family just spent a wonderful time with him. She also went on to add that Amartya Sen still teaches two courses a week at Harvard and also working on a Gender book.
Condolence messages flooded social media after the fake news about Amartya Sen spread like wildfire.
