HYDERABAD: With no provision for a separate luggage compartment in the metro train in Hyderabad there will be restrictions on the number of large suitcases or cartons that can be carried on the metro rail. The metro rail authorities state that they are yet to finalise on the actual baggage weight allowed but it will be more like an airport style of functioning where the baggage will be limited.

The Delhi Metro Rail has very clear rules about baggage. Up to 15 kilos of baggage is allowed. Airport passengers can also check in their luggage eight hours before the flight through the special city check-in facility offered by the Delhi Metro. The airport passengers can obtain a boarding pass at the city check-in counter and check-in the luggage as well. Such facilities are not yet available in the Hyderabad Metro Rail.

A senior officer with the Metro Rail explained, “The metro train will pass through the major stations but that does not mean that passengers can take a lot of luggage along with them on the metro rail. There will be restrictions like one person can carry only one small suitcase. Similarly, if a family of four are travelling, they can carry four bags. But one man carrying four bags will be restricted.” There are also talks to charge extra for the baggage but they are yet to streamline and finalise the rules.  Metro officials said that they are working to make the travel a disciplined, point-to-point destination which is time-saving.
