Ooty: Woman hurt by wild boar attack

Ooty: The man-wild boar conflict surfaced again in Kotagiri hills near here after a gap of three weeks when the movement of a sloth bear in Selas village limits near Coonoor triggered panic. 

Forest sources said that Khadija (50), a farmhand in a private plantation near Kotagiri, was attacked and injured by a wild boar in the late evening of Wednesday. She was rushed to Coimbatore where she is being treated in a hospital. Forester sources said that her condition is stabl now.

Meanwhile, the movement of a sloth bear around human settlements in Selas village limits near Coonoor on Thursday night scared residents. While the Salem village limits witnessed quite a few man-animal conflicts in the recent past with the gaur menace proving to be a challenging task to deal with in the recent weeks, now the straying of a sloth bear has emerged as the new challenge for foresters. 

Selas residents want the foresters to take effective steps to either drive away the stray bear or capture and relocate it.
