Hyderabad: Woman jumps off building after lover abandons her
She was three months pregnant.
Hyderabad: A primary school teacher who attempted suicide last week after she was abandoned by her alleged lover, a lecturer in Narayana Junior College, Kukatpally, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday. She was three months pregnant.
Police said the victim, B. Niharika, 20, allegedly jumped off the fourth floor of the building she was staying in, in Jagadgirigutta.
Niharaka used to work in Sanskruthi School and was allegedly in love with her student’s father, college lecturer K. Ravi, 35, for the past five months, said Jagadgirigutta sub-inspector Md. Akram.
The official said Niharika was three months pregnant and had confronted Ravi last week, asking him to marry her. He allegedly refused.
“Ravi told Niharika that he had a family of his own and asked her to stay away. On December 1, he took her to a men’s hostel to meet his friends and introduced her as his wife and kept her there for the night against her will. The next day, she called up her parents and informed about her plight, following which her brother and father took her home,” Mr Akram said.
“She slipped into depression thinking about how society would treat her, and jumped off from the fourth floor of her residence on December 5. She was rushed to a private hospital by her family, where she breathed her last on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment,” the sub-inspector said.
A case was booked against the lecturer on December 5, which was alerted to IPC Section 306 (abetment to suicide) on Sunday after Niharaka’s her death.
“Ravi is yet to be arrested, we will be nabbing him after the post-mortem reports come,” Mr Akram said. Officials shifted Niharaka’s body to the Gandhi Hospital morgue for the post-mortem examination.
