Vijayawada: State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) member T. Adilakshmi emphasised on protecting the human rights of human trafficking victims and their children, instead of stigmatising them like criminals in the society.

She was addressing a meeting organised by VIMUKTHI and HELP on the occasion of World Human Rights Day on Saturday. The two organisations work for protecting the rights of survivors and victims of commercial sexual exploitation.

Speaking on the occasion, NTR district Anti-Human Trafficking Unit in-charge K. Vasavi asked the trafficked survivors to lead a life of dignity for the wellbeing of their children.

Indian Red Cross Society state coordinator B.V.S. Kumar underlined that violation of human rights is a crime, whether against adults or children. He said many women turn sex workers owing to socio-economic conditions. No one must stigmatise them, he stated.

VIMUKTHI president N. Apurva and secretary B. Pushpavathi called on AP government to issue a new government order facilitating community-based rehabilitation of trafficked victims and their children.
