Varsity registrar G.P. Padmakumar, controller of examinations S. Shabu visit college on Tuesday.
Thrissur: The police on Tuesday ordered a Crime Branch investigation into the suicide of Jishnu Pranoy, a first year BTech student of Nehru College of Engineering at Pampady near Thiruvilwamala on Friday. Thrissur Rural Crime Branch DySP Biju K Steephan will head the investigation team.
Meanwhile, Kerala Technical University registrar G.P. Padmakumar and controller of examinations S. Shabu on Tuesday visited the Nehru College of Engineering at Pampady near Thiruvilwamala and started an inquiry following widespread outrage over the suicide of 18-year-old computer science student Jishnu Pranoy. The officials also started recording statements of students on matters that led to his death.
“KTU has not received any intimation from them about the victim cheating in exams. If a student commits any such violations, the concerned college is bound to report to the university the same day,” Mr Shabu told reporters.
The management's explanation to the police was that he was caught copying in the exam hall and was advised not to engage in such malpractices. Jishnu was found hanging in his hostel room later in the evening.
Meanwhile, doctors who conducted the post-mortem have conveyed to the police that the death was by hanging but there was an injury on his nose. They are yet to get the final report.
Pazhayannur SI Manoj Gopi said he would soon record statements of students in the issue.
