Corporal punishment: 14-yr-old boy faints in Bengaluru
When he could not produce his homework, he was allegedly asked to put out his hand to be punished.
Bengaluru: A 14 year old student of the elementary school attached to a Muslim orphanage in Ulsoor was allegedly hit with a stick for not completing his homework by one of the members of the committee running it during an inspection on Wednesday.
The boy, Sultan, a class VII student, has in a statement to the police allegedly said he was asked to show his homework by one of the committee members during an inspection of the school attached to the orphanage on Dickenson Road near Hasanath College at around 3 pm.
When he could not produce it, he was allegedly asked to put out his hand to be punished.
According to a senior police officer, while the committee member tried to hit him on his hand with a stick, the boy moved to evade the punishment and was instead hit on his abdomen and fainted out of fright.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated as an outpatient and returned to the orphanage, the officer added.
A teacher, who was present during the inspection, allegedly tried to call an ambulance to take Sultan to a hospital but was not allowed to by some of the committee members and the boy was later taken to a private hospital.
Based on Sultan’s statement, the Ulsoor police has registered a case under section 324 and further investigations are on.
