Hyderabad: 81 drunk drivers lose licences
Transport officials said licences were suspended following directions from SC appointed committee on road safety.
Hyderabad: The Telangana Road Transport Authority on Wednesday began suspending driving licences of motorists booked for drunk driving on three or more occasions.
Joint transport commissioner T. Raghunath said the RTA had suspended the licences of 81 motorists, after serving them showcause notices over 10 days ago.
“It is up to the regional transport officers to accept the explanation of motorists or suspend the licences. Those caught or booked for driving vehicles even after suspension of licence during these three months are liable to be prosecuted,” he said.
Transport officials said the licences were suspended following directions from the Supreme Court appointed committee on road safety.
A meeting of traffic police and transport officials also decided to suspend driving licences from the month end for other violations.
