Thiruvananthapuram government Pharm D still a dream
Experts say Pharm D who are specialised in disciplines like nephrology, psychiatry, neurology, and diabetology have a world of opportunities
Thiruvananthapuram: While the government proposal to introduce Pharm.D (Doctor of Pharmacy) programme in public sector in cold storage for the past seven years, the number of private colleges offering the course which have mushroomed in the state are having a gala time charging capitation fee at will.
In 2008 the previous LDF Government had come up with the proposal for introducing Pharm.D courses in government sector. The move came in the backdrop of three private institutions based in Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvanantha-puram respectively seeking NOC for starting the course. While the proposal stuck at the initial stage itself, 15 private institutions introduced the course during this period. “Most private institutions charge Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh capitation fee besides Rs 2 lakh course fee annually,” said an aspirant.
The private institutions have also been accused of violating mandatory reservation norms meant SC,ST and OBC thus depriving higher pharmacy education to students from the marginalised sections.
