MALAPPURAM: The police probing the alleged swindling of Rs 50 lakh by Nilambur legislator P.V. Anwar from an expatriate may soon question him.
They said they had clinching pieces of evidence against him.

As per the complaint filed by Saleem Naduthodi of Pattarkadavu who works in UAE, the ruling legislator had defrauded him in 2011 promising partnership in a nonexistent crusher unit in Karnataka.

"We have collected evidence from the local administration and revenue authorities of Belthangady near Mangalore which will be examined in detail," Manjeri inspector N.B Shaiju who led the probe team said.

Earlier the police had confirmed that the Left legislator received the money from Mr Naduthodi through bank account and cheques.

According to the complainant, Mr Anwar deceived him by showing documents of KE Stone Crusher in Belthangady and the land which were not owned by the MLA and made him believe that the property was valued at Rs 5 crore.

He had offered him 10 percent share in his non-existing crusher unit and a monthly dividend of profit. The police investigation found that the legislator did not own the crusher but leased to some other persons.

They also found that Mr Anwar owned another crusher unit in Belthangady bought in 2016 at a lower price. Though Mr Naduthodi had approached them with the complaint on November 22, 2017, a case was not registered, against which he moved a court.

The case was registered in December after the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Manjeri ordered a probe. Mr Anwar had tried to rescue himself from the legal battle through mediation, but Mr Naduthodi stuck to his demand for his money.
